1. HERAKLEIA
Visit Herakleia, build approx. 300 BC in and around the village of KAPIKIRI (take the side road from the village of BAFA; about 11 km.) a city with a harbour on the -at that time- Aegean Sea; temple inscriptons, agora, athena temple, basilica mosaics and graves; visit also the ENDYMION of the myth of moon goddess SELENE and visit the islands (churches), the best way to visit them is by boat.
2. SEVEN BROTHERS MONASTERY
Walk to the seven brothers monastery from the village of Gölyaka, that is on the same road as KAPIKIRI (see 1. but earlier, after approx 7km) and see the remains of the greatest byzantine monastery (see the byzantine fresc of Christus) and the view down at lake Bafa and admire the prehistoric KERDEMELEK fresc on the way.
3. OLD CITY OF LATMOS
Visit the old carian city of LATMOS, east of KAPIKIRI, and have a look at the remains of the rockhouses, rockgraves and try to find the pantokrator christi frescs (or ask a guide); admire the city walls connected by many watchtowers.
4. BALIKTAŞ
Some of the most beautiful prehistoric paintings can be found at BALIKTAŞ (a short walk from KARAHAYIT village, which lays on a side road of the road leading to KAPIKIRI.
5. KARADERE
One of the most beautifull ancient paths in the LATMOS MOUNTAINS : Go first by car from Sarıkemer (SHELL) to Karakaya (guide) and walk via KAVALAN and BOZALAN, partially using the same road as the people living there thousands of years ago (one of 3 old main roads : the road from MYUS to MILASA) and see another beautiful prehistoric rock painting at KARADERE; on the other side but a long walk away, are more paintings to be found at GÖKTEPE.
6. STYLOS
Walk to the STYLOS monastery from 700m high KARAKAYA with a guide; it is also possible to go there from KAPIKIRI but then then it is an even longer strech (approx. 11h)!
7. Top of the LATMOS MOUNTAINS
The Tekerlek tepe is the top (1.353m) of the LATMOS MOUNTAINS and to go there you really have a trekking trip to go! and take a guide along. From SAKARKAYA via the Anadolu pass (860m) and see also the Bağarcık settlements at 700m and the zeus temple.
8. HITHITE INSCRIPTIONS
Go to SURATKAYA from the Anadolu pass (see 7) and see the hithite inscriptions in the rocks (1000m high); take a guide(f.i. from SAKARKAYA) .
9. IONIAPOLIS
Walk around the marble quarries and IONIAPOLIS on the lakeside between PINARCIK and lake BAFA see the remains of the basilicas and the many temple columns, mostly under water (ment for DIDYMAs Apollo temple); nearly all the quarries are emptied and exported mostly to MILET and DIDYMA; even the architects of EFESUS where considering to use the beautiful marble of HERAKLEIA in ancient times...
